Car accident injury care in Bedford

After a crash, adrenaline can hide pain for hours or even days. Neck pain, stiffness, headaches and back pain often show up the next morning or later in the week. The most common injuries in a car accident are sprains and strains of the muscles and ligaments of the spine, and soft tissue injuries of the spine are what chiropractic care focuses on. Back & Neck Care Center of Bedford has 30 years of treating injury cases, and Dr. Richard Chatfield, D.C. sees accident patients at our office on Central Drive.

If you were just in a wreck, our guide to what to do after a car accident in Bedford covers the first steps in order.

Injuries we see after a crash

  • Whiplash and neck pain
  • Low and mid back pain
  • Headaches that start after the accident
  • Herniated or bulging discs
  • Sciatica and nerve pain down a leg
  • Sprains and strains of the spinal muscles and ligaments

What your first visit looks like

  1. Brief paperwork. General information about you and your injuries.
  2. Consultation. You talk with the doctor about what happened, what hurts and your treatment options.
  3. History and examination. Dr. Chatfield asks questions about your condition and performs specialized tests to find which tissues are affected and to what extent.
  4. X-rays, if needed. Your condition may call for x-rays to rule out more serious problems or to plan treatment. We take them in the office.
  5. Same-day treatment. Most patients get their first treatment at this visit: spinal adjustments, physical therapies and soft tissue therapies.
  6. Home instructions. Ice or heat, activities and positions to avoid, and home exercises or stretches.
  7. A follow-up in 1 to 2 days. You get a complete review of findings and a talk about your treatment options.

Care that goes beyond the adjustment

The chiropractic adjustment is the cornerstone of care. Depending on your injuries, your plan can add soft tissue and massage therapy, therapeutic exercises and stretches, physical modalities, spinal decompression for disc-related pain, and acupuncture. In serious or complicated cases, Dr. Chatfield consults with medical colleagues, and we refer you to an M.D. when you need one.

Paying for care after a crash

We accept most health insurance and do all the paperwork, and we offer affordable rates and flexible payment plans for patients without insurance. Your auto policy may also help: read personal injury protection (PIP) in Texas and how to get your Texas crash report. We do not give legal advice. For questions about your claim, talk to an attorney, and ask us if you need a referral.

  • An exam at your first visit

A consultation, a history and examination, and x-rays if your condition calls for them, so the doctor knows which tissues were injured and to what extent.

  • Treatment that starts the same day

Most new patients get their first treatment at the same visit: spinal adjustments, physical therapies and soft tissue therapies, plus instructions for home.

  • M.D. and attorney referrals

Some injuries need a medical doctor too. Dr. Chatfield consults with medical colleagues on serious or complicated cases, and we provide M.D. and attorney referrals.

  • Insurance paperwork handled

We accept most insurance and do all the paperwork. No insurance? Ask about our affordable rates and flexible payment plans.

    Bethany Perry, Google review

  • “Dr. Chatfield is awesome. He continually provided excellent care after my automobile accident. Even after I'd typically mess up what he "put back into place," he'd patiently and repetitiously tell me to stop picking up heavy stuff and fix me again. His staff are friendly, professional, competent, and was always appreciative when I would give them the day off whether Dr. Chatfield agreed or not. Great care!!”

  • “great place helped me after both car accidents”

FAQ

Car accident chiropractor in Bedford, TX questions

Still have questions? Call us any day and ask.

Request an appointment
  • How soon should I see a chiropractor after a car accident?

As soon as you can, ideally within the first few days. If anything feels like an emergency, call 911 or go to an emergency room first. For neck pain, back pain, headaches or stiffness after a crash, a prompt exam means your injuries are checked and written down close to the date of the accident.

  • Do you work with attorneys?

We provide M.D. and attorney referrals, and we offer secondary evaluations and opinions. Dr. Chatfield is certified by the Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Disability Analysts. For questions about your claim itself, talk to an attorney: we do not give legal advice.

  • Will insurance pay for my care?

We accept most health insurance and do all the paperwork. After a car accident, your own auto policy may also include personal injury protection (PIP), which pays medical bills no matter who caused the crash. Call your insurer to confirm your coverage.

  • When should I go to the ER instead?

Call 911 or go to an emergency room for a head injury, loss of consciousness, severe pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg, trouble breathing, or anything getting worse quickly. Chiropractic care is not emergency care.
